报告题目:1Measuring Urban Public Transportation Accessibility

2Geosimulation for Urban Parking Policy-Making

人:Prof. Itzhak BenensonDepartment of Geography and

Human Environment, Tel Aviv University, Israel

报告摘要:

Accessibility is a key indicator to assess transport investments, urban policy and urban form. From both the environmental and the equity component of sustainability, a comparison of accessibility by car versus public transport is of the utmost importance.

Prof. Itzhak Benenson will propose a set of accessibility measures that directly relate transit-based and car-based accessibility to each other and present the Urban.Access software, to measure and map accessibility over the large urban areas with the population of several millions and thousands public transportation lines of different kinds. Urban.Access enables a detailed representation of travel times by transit and car and makes it possible to compare accessibility levels by transport mode. Depending on data availability, the application can be employed at various spatial resolutions – from urban traffic zones to separate buildings.

The application of Urban.Access to the public transportation system in Tel Aviv metropolitan area, with its population of 3 million reveals large gaps between car-based and transit-based accessibility. The accessibility maps constructed for different hours of a day reveal essential spatial and temporal heterogeneity of accessibility over the metropolitan area and the lack of fit between current public transportation network and distribution of the carless population. I argue that this is not the result of a poorer transit system in the Tel Aviv area, but rather of a more detailed description of travel by transit in the Urban.Access application. The larger gaps point to a greater need for adequate policy responses, both for reducing car dependence as well as for creating a more equitable transport system.
